RIP Bungie? Can They Actually Save Destiny 2?
As a quick recap, Bungie was throttling XP gains during activities such as public events the longer that the player did them in one session. The kicker? Well the game was still telling players that they were supposed to be earning the normal amount of XP. Super shady bro.
As a disclaimer, I have over 2000 hours logged in Destiny 1. I played that game longer than any other game, from day 1 to the release of Destiny 2. However, I probably have only put in a 10th or less of the time into Destiny 2. If you’re reading this, I don’t need to tell you why.
Needless to say, the player base was pissed. And not the normal Destiny player pissed, but like with a legit reason this time.
AND IT DIDN’T STOP THERE…
Bungie admitted on Twitter that they were in fact throttling the XP gains and that they would be turning the system off because it wasn’t performing as intended.
OKAY BUNGIE SURE. You’re not sorry, you’re sorry you got caught. This was all in an attempt to stop players from accumulating Bright Engrams as quickly as possible. Because why make game mechanics level you up when you can just spend real money for the rewards?
As of right now we know this: Bungie canceled their third and final live stream for the Curse of Osiris DLC that was planned for today, and instead are going to be releasing an update on the concerns of the player base. I am interested to see what they say. Bunige is going to have to do some serious damage control if they want this game to survive.
Stay tuned to the blog where we will be posting that Bungie Weekly Update when it’s live!
